Have you ever heard a band and written them off only to fall in love with their music?
Confession: I did that to the Seattle-based Mars Hill Church band: Citizens. Now I am HOOKED on their music.
The past couple of months we’ve introduced a couple of their songs. The first song we introduced was “In Tenderness” and the church seemed to almost immediately adopt it.
I especially love the simple yet truthful chorus because it easily gets stuck in your head. And let’s admit that these are great truths that are good to get stuck in your head.
O – o – oh the love that sought me!
O – o – oh the blood that bought me!
Oh the grace that brought me to the fold of God
Grace that brought me to the fold of God
Take a listen to this song…
The second song we introduced to the church was “Made Alive” which has a SUPER CATCHY chorus that goes like this…
You have bought me back with the riches of
Your amazing grace and relentless love
I’m made alive forever with you life forever by your grace I’m saved
What’s really great about this song is that it’s fun to watch the church dance and move to this song. Check it out for yourself:
Since we’re on the topic of the Citizens, the next song off of their self-titled album I want to introduce is “Hail the King.”
Again, the chorus is super catchy, simple and full of Godly truths.
Praise the Savior, he has won
Our sin defeated, through His blood
Now exalted, Jesus reigns
Hail the king, praise His name
Then I really like singing the refrain later in the song…
We rejoice in the hope of the glory of God!
We rejoice in the hope of the glory of God!
We rejoice in the hope of the glory of God!
We rejoice in the glory of God

Lastly, Hillsong Worship just released a new album called “No Other Name.” The first “single” off of that album is “This I Believe (The Creed)” which is a perfect corporate worship song. Check out these lyrics:
I believe in God our Father
I believe in Christ the Son
I believe in the Holy Spirit
Our God is three in one
I believe in the resurrection
That we will rise again
For I believe in the Name of Jesus
Here’s the studio version of this song:
I also love this rendition by Ben Fielding, co-writer and singer / songwriter with Hillsong.
