Tonight I listened to a beautiful duet of Lori Chaffer and Sandra McCracken singing “It’s Alright.” (I’ll post it below in case you want to also listen to this great song)

Then it got me thinking. If you were going to name your top 5 favorite songs, what would they be?  For me, a few immediately popped in my head. Naturally they are all worship (church) songs since I serve as a volunteer worship leader. Oh yeah, and I listen to a lot of worship music.

Unfortunately I tried to cap it off at 5 songs, but I just couldn’t do it so without further ado, here are my top 7 favorite worship songs in no particular order.

Psalm 145 by Shane Barnard & Shane Everett

Here’s the deal. I’ve been a big Shane and Shane (and Caleb Carruth) fan for a long time. Not only are they great singer/songwriters, they are very down-to-earth, humble guys you just want to hang out with. Every time we’ve had a chance to spend time together, we end up in laughter. Nevertheless, Psalm 145 has been one of my favorite songs for a long time. Plus the cool thing is this song helps me memorize scripture.

With Everything by Hillsong United

If this is your first time reading my blog or visiting my site, you’ll quickly find out that I am a BIG Hillsong United fan. I love this band and will travel to see them if necessary. Case in point. They came to Des Moines a couple of years ago and blew us away with an amazing night of worship. So what did I do? I road-tripped it down to Kansas City the next night with a good friend of mine to see them again. With Everything helps me connect with God in a deep, intimate way. It’s that plain and simple.

Stand Up by All Sons and Daughters

I JUST posted a concert review of All Sons and Daughters after my lovely wife and I attended one of their nights of worship here in Des Moines. They have quickly grown to become one of my favorite bands as I love their catchy songs and beautiful harmonies. Stand Up is such a moving song. I honestly can’t wait to sing it at church sometime hopefully in the near future.

Where You Go I’ll Go by Jesus Culture and Kim Walker-Smith

I really appreciate and enjoy Jesus Culture and Kim Walker-Smith. I love how she gets lost in worship and she’s “all in” when she’s singing. So it’s no surprise that Where You Go I’ll Go is one of my favorite songs. I believe this was originally written by Brian and Jenn Johnson who are worship leaders at Bethel Church in Redding, CA.

Set A Fire by Will Regan and the United Pursuit Band

Live At the Banks House is probably one of my favorite albums. That album, along with All Sons and Daughters “Live” album are my go-to albums when I have to travel as I…ahem…have a bit of airplane anxiety. Okay, I have a fear of flying. There I admitted it. Now I feel better.  So one of the ways that I cope with my anxiety is through music therapy…namely, listening to these two albums. Set A Fire is one of my favorite songs off of this album.

How He Loves by John Mark McMillan

How can you not love this song? It’s so honest and raw. You just want to scream it at the top of your lungs. So if you haven’t seen the whole story behind this song, then watch this video below. It will be worth your time.

Oceans by Hillsong United

Yeah, I know. I picked two Hillsong United songs. No, that’s not by accident. Not only do I appreciate Joel Houston as a worship leader and singer/songwriter, I also really enjoy Taya Smith’s amazing voice as she leads Oceans.

Your Turn…

So I named my top 7 songs. What are yours?

Disclaimer: It doesn’t have to be worship songs.
